A kitesurfing holiday in Egypt combines some of the most reliable wind in the world with warm water, year-round sunshine and great value for money. Whether you want to learn from scratch, improve your riding or spend a week chasing empty spots, the Red Sea has a trip for you. Here is how to plan it.
Step 1: choose the season for your kitesurfing holiday in Egypt
You can kitesurf in Egypt all year, but each season feels different:
- Spring (March–May): often the windiest time of year. The water warms up through the season – a long wetsuit early on, a shorty or lycra by May.
- Summer (June–August): hot, sunny and reliably windy, with warm water.
- Autumn (September–November): strong, even wind and pleasant temperatures – a favourite for many riders.
- Winter (December–February): milder and calmer days mixed with good windy spells; bring a long 5 mm wetsuit.
For a live picture of the conditions, see our Hurghada wind forecast.
Step 2: choose your base
Hurghada is the easiest place to start: an international airport, accommodation for every budget and several kite spots within easy reach. Our school is on a long, shallow lagoon between Hurghada and El Gouna, beside the AMC Royal Hotel, with the Hawaii hotel close by too. For other options, read our guide to the best kitesurfing spots in Egypt.
Step 3: decide what you want to achieve
Learn to kitesurf
Most beginners need around 10–12 hours of lessons over three or four days to ride independently. Book your kitesurfing lessons in Hurghada for the start of your trip, so you have time to practise afterwards.
Improve your riding
Flat, shallow water is perfect for learning to ride upwind, carve transitions and try your first jumps. Private coaching sessions with feedback after a level check can speed things up enormously.
Explore
Confident riders should consider a kite safari on the Red Sea – a week on a yacht, riding remote island lagoons such as Tawila and Geisum.
Step 4: sort out your equipment
Flying with kite gear is expensive and awkward. Many riders rent instead, so they always have the right kite size for the day. Our kite rental in Hurghada covers kites, boards, bars, harnesses, hydrofoils and wetsuits. If you visit often, you can leave your own gear in our kite storage between trips.
Step 5: getting around
From central Hurghada, the Go-Bus between Hurghada and El Gouna can drop you close to Palma Resort, where we are based. Taxis are easy to find, and if you hire a car you can use the hotel car park. Read our kitesurf holiday Hurghada guide for more practical tips.
Step 6: enjoy life off the water
Even the most dedicated kiter needs rest days. Hurghada and the Red Sea coast offer:
- Snorkelling and diving on some of the world’s most colourful reefs.
- Boat trips to the islands.
- Desert excursions by jeep or quad bike.
- Day trips to Luxor and its ancient temples.
- Relaxed evenings in El Gouna’s marina or Hurghada’s restaurants.
At the beach, our chill-out zone has loungers, shade, tea, coffee and soft drinks, and you can order lunch without leaving the station.
Sample week for an improver
- Days 1–2: refresher lesson and coached sessions on the lagoon.
- Days 3–4: independent riding with rental gear; work on upwind riding and transitions.
- Day 5: rest day – snorkelling or a desert trip.
- Days 6–7: back on the water, filming your progress.
